We welcome you not only to the
office of the Howard County Treasurer (226 N. Main St.), but also to
this web site. Our goal is to help you be able to
access your personal tax records anytime, day or night. To view
your tax information on line, please click “Tax Information” listed
under “Features”. All payments are posted on this web site one day
after they are posted in the office. Also our office is open from
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through
Friday (except for holidays). My staff and I welcome you and will
be glad to help you with your questions and concerns.
The Howard County Treasurer is the
custodian of all moneys belonging to Howard
County. The Treasurer collects local taxes which include: real estate tax,
personal property tax, mobile home tax, and state assessed tax. The
County
Treasurer is responsible for the following miscellaneous taxes: auto excise tax,
inheritance tax, and innkeeper’s tax. The
County
Treasurer, as an officer on the County
Board of Finance, is responsible
to deposit, invest and account for all moneys entrusted to Howard
County Government.

The position of Treasurer is
governed by the constitution of Indiana and State law. The term of
office is limited to two consecutive four year terms.

TAX DEADLINES FOR 2010 PAYMENTS
First Installment
Monday, May 10th, 2010
Second Installment
Wednesday, November 10th,
2010

Taxes can be mailed
using the mailing address on the left.
A U.S. postmark is
required for on time mailing. A 5% penalty will be added if your
late payment is made within 30 days of the legal due date (if you
have no other delinquent taxes due): a 10% penalty will be added if
paid more than 30 days late.
Please note that
the Treasurer’s Office accepts partial payments
in order to make paying taxes easier. |

BANKS ACCEPTING TAX PAYMENTS
Community First, Harris Bank, Central Bank, First Farmers,
National City, Star Financial and Keybank will accept “on time” tax
payments. All banks will refuse an altered tax bill or late
payment.
For taxpayer convenience, the office has a payment drop box
in the lobby of the Administration Center to accommodate all tax
payments regardless of whether the office is open or closed.

PROPERTY TAX SALES 2010
1.
The 2010 Property Tax Sale will be held in October on a date to be announced. Unpaid taxes, liens and/or drainage assessments delinquent from the
spring of 2009 or before will make a property eligible for tax sale.
2. Due to a change in the law, there
will be only one county wide tax sale per year.
